Comprehensive treatment of lacrimal drainage pathway pathology

Dacryocystitis is a condition associated with obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct, which frequently causes discomfort and inflammation.
According to statistics, approximately 15% of newborns encounter this problem — most commonly due to congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction, but dacryocystitis also occurs in adults.

In adults, treatment is essential, as spontaneous resolution of this condition is not possible. The highly professional team at Crystal Vision clinics is ready to offer you the DACRYO care comprehensive package of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, which will free you or your child from dacryocystitis.

Treatment approach

There are two approaches to treating dacryocystitis:
therapeutic and surgical.

Therapeutic treatment

  • Antiseptic instillation
  • Antibiotic therapy
  • Lacrimal sac massage

*However, this approach does not always produce a positive outcome.

Surgical treatment

  • Nasolacrimal duct probing

We use a unique probing technique that takes into account the age-related characteristics of soft tissue in children. During probing, the surgeon introduces a specialised probe into the lacrimal duct directly through the lacrimal punctum.
We use endoscopic equipment, allowing full visual control throughout the procedure.

  • Dacryocystorhinostomy

If a patient comes to us following multiple nasolacrimal duct probings that have left it impossible to restore, or where atresia is present, then dacryocystorhinostomy is required. This procedure can often be traumatic to the nasal bones, but at Crystal Vision we perform it in a fundamentally different way.
We introduce a thin, small fibre-optic camera with a camera into the nasal cavity, while simultaneously introducing another fibre-optic camera into the nasolacrimal pathways from above, and on a large monitor we obtain an image of the lacrimal duct at the precise location where we intend to create the rhinostomy (i.e. the new anastomosis). An ENT specialist with specialist skills makes a small opening in the bone, and from above we then guide the mucosa of the upper portions of the nasolacrimal duct through this opening.
This mucosa effectively fuses with the nasal mucosa, creating a shared anastomosis at this point. We then insert a stent from above, which is removed after 2 months.
The procedure is minimally traumatic, and its effectiveness reaches 100%.

At Crystal Vision clinics we use only the most modern and effective treatment methods, suitable for even the youngest patients. Even surgical treatment is minimally traumatic and leaves no scarring. Throughout the procedure, the child is under general anaesthesia, which is entirely safe for them.
