Night lens fitting (orthokeratology)

Orthokeratology is a modern method of vision correction using specialist night lenses. During sleep, the lenses gently and safely reshape the cornea, allowing clear vision throughout the entire day after their removal in the morning — without glasses or conventional contact lenses.
This method has undergone extensive clinical trials and is certified in the USA, Canada and European Union countries as an effective and safe method of vision correction. It is recommended for use from the age of 6.
In Russia, orthokeratology is included in the Federal Clinical Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of myopia in children.

At Crystal Vision clinics, night lenses form part of a comprehensive programme that effectively slows the progression of myopia in combination with other methods.

Orthokeratology — night lens fitting

Orthokeratology is a safe and effective alternative to soft daytime contact lenses or optical correction when these are contraindicated.

Key capabilities of the method:
  • Myopia correction up to -8.0 D
  • Astigmatism correction up to -4.0 D
  • Suitable for children from the age of 6
  • Approved by ophthalmologists worldwide

How night lenses work

How night lenses work diagram
  • Night lenses are worn only during sleep. Overnight, the shape of the cornea gradually changes.
  • During waking hours, vision is sharp and no glasses or contact lenses are needed.
  • Almost all children and adults report a high level of comfort when wearing OK lenses during sleep.
  • Orthokeratological lenses are put in 10–15 minutes before sleep. They must be worn for at least 8 hours.

Night lenses at Crystal Vision

At our clinics we recommend using the most advanced orthokeratological night lenses available. They reshape the cornea overnight and provide 100% daytime vision without the need for glasses, daytime contact lenses, or surgery.

Advantages of night lenses

  • Myopia correction

Night lenses allow safe correction of myopia up to 7 dioptres without astigmatism, or up to 4 dioptres with astigmatism.

  • Halting progression

Combined with our methodology, night lenses help halt myopia progression in 60–90% of cases.

  • Scientifically proven

The effectiveness of night lenses has been demonstrated by numerous scientific studies conducted by ophthalmologists from Russia, Europe, the USA, China, India, Australia, Japan and other countries. More than one million patients in 35 countries worldwide already use night lenses.

Mechanism of action of night lenses

During sleep, night lenses reshape the anterior surface of the cornea.
The effect lasts up to 48 hours. The changes are safe and fully reversible: if night lenses are discontinued, vision returns to its original parameters.

Manufacturing of night lenses

Night lenses are made from materials with high oxygen permeability, allowing the cornea to "breathe" and ensuring safe use throughout the lens lifetime, provided daily cleaning and disinfection are carried out.
Night lenses are manufactured by SkyOptix Laboratory — the largest producer, supplier and exporter of specialist rigid contact lenses. The SkyOptix Laboratory is built to international standards and equipped with the finest precision equipment from the USA and Europe. The laboratory operates in accordance with the international quality management standard ISO 13485, guaranteeing impeccable product quality.
