Laser vision correction for children

There is a widespread belief that laser vision correction cannot be performed on children under the age of 18. In reality, this is only an approximate threshold.
On one hand it marks the age of adulthood; on the other, it is the age at which myopia stabilises — which occurs in many, but not all, children at this point.

At Crystal Vision, we have developed a technique that allows laser vision correction to be performed at an earlier age where there is a clinical indication to do so.
By helping a child to be free of glasses, we open up a world of possibilities for a happy childhood — they will be able to play sport, run, swim, and enjoy every day to the full!

Laser vision correction for children

The clinical necessity of laser correction for certain conditions, combined with the psychological freedom it offers children and the new opportunities it creates, makes laser vision correction a true gift for our young patients.

Igor Erikovich Aznauryan
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, paediatric ophthalmologist, ophthalmic surgeon, and founder and director of the Crystal Vision clinics in Russia — performed his first laser correction on a child 19 years ago, and since then we have been successfully freeing children from glasses and contact lenses.

Indications for laser correction in children

  • Hyperopia and astigmatism
  • Hyperopia up to +6 D, astigmatism up to -/+6.0 D. In cases of hyperopia or astigmatism, the child's eye completes its growth by the age of 5–6 years, and by the age of 9–10 its ocular structures are fully formed. It is for this reason that refractive surgery can already be performed at 9–10 years of age in a child with hyperopia or astigmatism, freeing them from glasses during their school years.
  • Anisometropia and intolerance of glasses
  • Refractive surgery is widely used worldwide in children with anisometropia — where there is a significant difference in optical power between the right and left eye, with congenital high-degree myopia or hyperopia in one eye.
Refractive surgery, or laser correction, is clearly indicated when a child is unable to tolerate glasses or contact lenses, and also in cases of significant facial skeletal abnormalities that prevent spectacle correction from being worn.
  • Accommodative strabismus

Give your child the gift of seeing the world clearly — without glasses or contact lenses!

We do not perform laser correction on children simply for the sake of it. Where necessary, the young patient first undergoes preliminary treatment to halt the progression of vision loss, so that we can be confident that laser correction will free them from glasses for life!
