Corneal topography

Corneal topography is a non-contact diagnostic procedure for evaluating the condition of the cornea, performed by means of detailed laser scanning.

It is used to assess corneal characteristics and refractive parameters (including evaluation of astigmatism), and provides information on the uniformity or irregularity of the corneal surface — enabling certain conditions to be excluded or diagnosed (such as corneal surface changes associated with contact lens wear, corneal dystrophies, epitheliopathies, and others).
Corneal topography is the only method capable of detecting keratoconus — a serious condition — at an early stage. For patients planning laser vision correction, it is particularly important to rule out the presence of keratoconus and other occult ocular pathology that could affect the surgical outcome.
