Magnetic resonance imaging
We perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the eyes and associated areas of the brain. Orbital MRI allows visualisation of the structure of the orbits and extraocular muscles, and identification of any pathological processes within the orbit.
We perform orbital MRI using one of the most powerful scanners available — a Siemens 3 Tesla — which enables cross-sectional imaging at 2 mm slice thickness in all planes.
We perform orbital MRI according to our own protocol in children with strabismus and nystagmus, and are able to determine all parameters relating to the orbit and the position of the extraocular muscles relative to the eyeball, with accuracy to within 1 mm.
The data obtained are used to determine the patient management strategy and the type of surgical intervention required.
No special preparation is needed for this examination.
In children under 6 years of age, the examination is performed under general anaesthesia, which eliminates the risk of blurred images due to movement during the scan.
We are also able to perform MRI and surgical intervention simultaneously within a single administration of anaesthesia.
Examinations are performed at the JSC Medicina inpatient facility
